Each year we organize at least two San Pablo Creek cleanups (one in April as part of Orinda Action/Earth Day and the other in September in conjunction with the annual California Coastal Cleanup.) In addition, we host community lectures and have had booths at the Orinda 4th of July celebration and the Orinda (formerly Wagner Ranch) Nature Area.
2024 Cleanups will be held held:
Check this page for more details as these events approach.
FOC board members Bruce McGurk and Torus Jaeger led the cleanup, powered by 15 Scouts and 3 leaders from Troop 237 of Orinda. They picked up trash from the Creek trail and banks, then spread out and cleaned up the parking lots whose storm drains empty into the Creek. They also cleaned up around the Farmers Market and in the Community Center Park. Thanks to all who attended!
Join Friends of Orinda Creeks for our annual spring San Pablo Creek cleanup. We ask that our volunteers wear closed-toe shoes with long pants and bring a water bottle, gloves, and, if possible, a bucket to put trash in to bring it back to the collection site. We will provide bags for those who don’t have buckets and we also provide some grabbers.
WHEN: Saturday, April 20th from 9 am to noon.
WHERE: Orinda Village. Turn down the driveway at 25 Orinda Way (Vintage House, across from the Orinda Community Center) and park in the back near the chain link fence.
FOR MORE INFO: Contact info@friends.orindacreeks.org.
Trash and debris accumulate along San Pablo Creek in Downtown Orinda and eventually flow down to San Pablo Reservoir and all the way to the Bay. We encourage everyone to help take care of our fragile marine environment by volunteering right here in downtown Orinda to keep our creeks pristine.
WHEN: Saturday, September 23 from 9 am - 12 noon.
WHERE: Behind the Vintage House (25 Orinda Way) next to the chain link fence.
BRING: A water bottle, gloves and sturdy shoes. Long pants and long sleeves are preferred.
OUR MISSION: To bag litter and trash along the creek and remove brush and limbs to be chipped.

Come join Friends of Orinda Creeks as we march in the Fourth of July Parade! We will be near the front of the parade next to our dear friends at Friends of Orinda Nature Area. If you are in the village, take a moment after the parade to go see the Phase I Restoration site behind the Vintage Office Building, or walk the entire San Pablo Creek Path from the former Bank of America Building to Chevron. Thanks for your support!
Friends of Orinda Creeks held their Spring Creek Cleanup on April 22 in conjunction with Orinda Action Day. Many bags of trash were picked up and invasive French broom removed from the banks of San Pablo Creek by a great team of eager volunteers.
Friends of Orinda Creeks held their Fall Creek Cleanup on September 17, in conjunction with the Coastal Cleanup Day. Nearly 30 volunteers showed up to help, including Scouts and leaders of Orinda’s Troops 303 B&G. Lots of litter, plastic bags, landscaping debris, a metal & glass shower door, and a roll of firehouse were removed. FOC appreciates owners of the Vintage House for allowing us to use their parking lot! The next cleanup will be late April 2023 as part of Orinda Action Day.
Friends of Orinda Creeks came out in full force to march in the annual Orinda 4th of July Parade. We were also thanked several times for our leadership and input during the library mural dedication prior to the parade. A great beginning to a summer that will conclude with our Phase I San Pablo Creek Restoration Project!
April 23rd, 2022 was a beautiful day for a creek cleanup, coming just after some very welcome spring rain. Five FOC board members were joined by the Miramonte Lacrosse Team, with Coach Byron McGovern in the lead, along with several other community volunteers. Trash, as well as invasive French Broom, was removed from the San Pablo Creek riparian corridor in Orinda Village. Repairs were also made to the new path along that same stretch of San Pablo Creek. A big thanks from FOC to all who helped!
