ABOUT US

The Friends of Orinda Creeks is a 501(c)(3) charitable non-profit organization (Tax ID: 90-0666255) dedicated to the preservation and restoration of the Orinda watershed(s) and to educating the local community about the ecology and proper care of their creeks.

Our ongoing activities include:

  • Removing trash and invasive non-native plants from the creeks including organizing community volunteers for our semi-annual Downtown San Pablo Creek clean-up days
  • Planting native riparian species
  • Partnering with the Watershed Project to monitor the water quality in the Orinda creeks
  • Working with EBMUD to ensure that debris is cleared to allow fish passage above San Pablo reservoir as part of our commitment to restoring rainbow trout to their historical habitat in San Pablo Creek
  • Working with the City of Orinda to integrate the restoration  of San Pablo Creek into the Downtown Precise plan and develop a staged implementation.  For more information on the San Pablo Creek restoration click on the San Pablo Creek Restoration tab in the menu above or go to www.restoresanpablocreek.org
  • Participating in the Fourth of July parade and staffing an informational booth in the park after the parade
  • Sponsoring educational events and workshops
  • Encouraging composting, removal of exotic invasive plants, planting of low maintenance native plants, and reducing of chemical fertilizers and pesticides
  • Providing local students with opportunities for field projects to enhance their environmental education
  • Working with Boy and Girl Scouts to fulfill their community service projects

OUR LOGO

Our logo is a Pacific Chorus Frog, also commonly known as a Pacific Tree Frog.  If you live near a creek in Orinda you have probably heard them croaking at night after a healthy winter of rain.  You can learn more about our native frog from this article in Bay Nature Magazine: https://baynature.org/article/pacific-chorus-frogs-use-famous-calls-stake-territory/
